Welcome to iSpot southern Africa

iSpot southern Africa Your gateway to sharing and identifying the biodiversity around us.

Ultimately we hope that this site will become the premier Citizen Science portal for southern Africa, providing photographic, distributional and biogeographic data on all taxa, with species lists, surveys and atlas opportunities: your one-stop-shop for recording and exchanging biodiversity information.

The site is ideal for: posting your pictures; requesting identifications or information; running formal and informal courses on taxonomy and identification; a virtual museum of information; verification hubs for surveys, atlassing and backyard biodiversity projects; a tool for biodiversity education; and an opportunity to increase your identification skills and reputation in those groups that turn you on.

The site is now fully operational. We hope to implement several additional applications soon, like map searches and uploading observations from your cell phone.

ISpot is one of a suite of applications by which SANBI is making biodiversity information available to the public - for more see www.sanbi.org.za
