about the size of a large grape ~ 3cm x 2cm diameter

Are those leaves from the same plant as the tubers? They look a bit like those of Cissampelos capensis, but I'm not too sure what its below ground parts look like.

I just saw your observation of Cissampelos capensis, so I guess those leaves actually came from there.

i should have removed the leaves before taking the pics, sorry.
All was in big one bag with lots of Cissampelos. Ciss's,,, family, Menispermaceae, does not ring a bell to make tubers.
My first hope was that it is the collectors testes.
