Description: The "thick" antennae and the eyes "bulging" on the sides of the head are interesting. The insect was sitting calmly in the center of the flower. We took a number of photos. After a few minutes it moved to the edge of the flower.

Description: start off as pretty little green nymphs which develop into these voracious prehistoric monsters, adult body length (without legs) to 50mm. They have a wide appetite and have been observed to eat fresh window putty, devour an entire 1m high banana plant overnight, and cannibalize their road kill victim brothers. Eggs are laid in the soil. I used to kill these pests in my garden but since coming face to face with those little innocent faces through my camera lens its the garden that suffers now. There are a number of individuals photographed here, male and female.
