Description: Large flock of large plump birds with dark grey plumage all but head and neck which are black. Frontal shield and bill are white with a red knob above the shield. The knob enlarges during breeding season.

Description: Look at the mostly yellow bill and the greenish legs. the juvenile common moorhen has a dark bill. The problem I have is that according to Roberts, one specimen was collected near Swellemdam and it is not found in the W Cape.
